How do you define Kraft Paper? Eco-Friendly Packaging Benefits
How Does Kraft Paper Work?
Chemical pulp is used to make Kraft paper, also known as Kraft board. Due to its durability, elasticity, and environmental benefits, it is commonly used in food packaging and e-commerce.
Carl Dahl invented Kraft paper in 1879. In honor of his paper's strength, he named it "Kraft." Kraft paper packaging is well-known in the printing and packaging industries. Almost all sustainable and eco-friendly packaging uses this durable paper in some way. Wrapping gift boxes with this material can eloquently enhance the appearance of the package you receive.
Why Did It Happen?
Paper is made from wood pulp, composed of lignin and cellulose. Due to its structure, paper is not made with lignin but with cellulose, so separating lignin from cellulose was necessary.
Mr. Dahl's wood chips separated from the cellulose when boiled with sodium sulfide and sodium hydroxide. The remnants could be screened through a mesh and made into paper.
Lignin and cellulose are separated during the cooking process, but they are not completely removed. Kraft paper has this strength because paper pulp still contains lignin and sulfur. Combined, these two components give Kraft paper its strength.
The wood pulp used in Kraft paper is a natural product. Bleaching would increase the cost of producing Kraft paper and weaken it by destroying fibers that make it durable. Bleached (white) kraft paper is stronger than conventional paper. Using bleached kraft paper will prevent your product packaging from yellowing.
Kraft paper has numerous benefits for packaging products. Consider these reasons when choosing it as your packaging material.
Custom Packaging: Benefits of Kraft Paper
Then what can you do with Kraft paper now that you know how it is made?
Kraft Paper: A Natural Beauty with Timeless Appeal
As an environmental leader, Kraft paper helps your business stand out with its simple, appealing, and primitive appearance. Mass-produced paper packaging differs from rustic packaging due to its rustic appearance.
Kraft paper offers a cost-effective solution for your custom boxes, in addition to its attractive appearance. Light and durable, it adds little weight to your shipment, reducing your shipping costs.
It is also possible to recycle Kraft paper. As far as the environment is concerned, Kraft paper has no negative effects. Your brand credibility remains intact as an environmentally friendly, forward-thinking company, even though the product degrades within a few weeks.
Custom Kraft Boxes Are Incredibly Durable, Thanks To Kraft Paper.
Due to its manufacturing process, kraft paper is inherently strong. To enhance its strength, a coating of polyethylene or PE can be applied to the resulting pressed paper. The coating also makes recycling kraft paper more challenging because it protects it from moisture and bacteria.
Multiple layers of Kraft paper can make Kraft boxes even stronger.
Brown Kraft Paper Benefits the Environment.
Fewer chemicals are used in Kraft paper than in regular paper, which uses a more complex process. These chemicals can also be recovered, recycled, and reused without sacrificing quality. Byproducts of kraft processing, such as tall oil and turpentine, can be used for other manufacturing processes.
Kraft paper is also made from a variety of woods. It is rare for traditional paper to be made from woods like bamboo or pine. Due to pine's high resin content and bamboo's faster processing requirements, most ordinary uses of pine and bamboo are prohibitively expensive. Both types of wood can be effectively processed with Kraft paper.
In addition, the parts are not reusable. This is a great option for businesses that need durability and low costs.
